Rainbow Plant Food

Farmers started using our flagship Rainbow Plant Food as a premium fertilizer for cotton before movies had sound. Since then, we have refined the product to include essential nutrients for a variety of crops, including cotton, corn, tobacco, soybeans, and more.

Today, Rainbow Plant Food boasts nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and sulfur – the four essential ingredients for Above-average Yields. The product also offers nutrients such as boron, manganese and zinc to promote fuller and more vibrant crops.

Every granule of Rainbow Plant Food provides the ideal mix of nutrients to
Make Your Fields Thrive.
And when they thrive, you do, too.

Because every farmer is different, because every grower grows different crops, we offer Rainbow Plant Food in a variety of grades for a variety of crops in every region of the country.

The following is an example of the grades that are normally inventoried at our plants.

Chemical Make Up

Every granule of Rainbow Plant Food contains a perfect combination of nutrients to maximize distribution and crop yield. Here’s a sampling of some of the minerals our granules contain:

Magnesium – This mineral is a key element for chlorophyll development and the formation of sugars within the plants. Magnesium also acts as a carrier for phosphorus throughout the plant and root system. Think of it as a highway, enabling transportation inside your crops.

Sulfur – Sulfur also plays a vital role in chlorophyll production. This mineral is essential to plant growth, root development and seed production. Sulfur also can increase the efficiency with which plants use other minerals, such as nitrogen and phosphorus.

Calcium – Calcium isn’t only responsible for strong bones in growing humans; the mineral also promotes development of a plant’s cell strength, while affecting the plant’s uptake of other nutrients. Got calcium?

Nitrogen – While the human body rejects nitrogen, the mineral is a key component of plant life. Nitrogen comprises the part of chlorophyll involved in photosynthesis, and also is part of plant energy systems that helps with amino acid and protein production.

Phosphorus – Phosphorus plays a role in the all-important functions of cell division and cell enlargement. It is a mineral every plant needs to grow, and is therefore a mineral we make sure we put in every one of our International, Rainbow, and Super Rainbow Plant Food products.

Zinc – Zinc is necessary for regulating plant growth hormones, as well as activating plant enzymes critical to maturation. Put simply, without zinc, plants just cannot grow up.

Boron – Cell elasticity is critical for newly developed cells that need to elongate rapidly, and boron promotes it better than just about any other mineral. The nutrient is therefore perfect for high-yield crops.

Iron – Iron is as important to health in plants as it is to health in humans. In plants, it acts as an oxygen carrier, helping form certain respirator enzyme systems in most crops.

Molybdenum – One of the only words in the English language to pit a “b” and a “d” consecutively, molybdenum is required for plants to reduce nitrogen to usable forms. It’s also necessary to convert inorganic phosphorus to organic forms.

If these minerals aren’t enough to remember, Potassium, Copper, Chloride, and Manganese are all also necessary for photosynthesis, chlorophyll formation, and the activation of many other enzymes. Chloride in particular is involved in the chemical breakdown of water in the presence of sunlight.

Considering all of these choices, you can’t go wrong with Rainbow Plant Food. All of our Rainbow grades contain Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium. This triumvirate, a trio we call “NPK,” comprises our basic offering of primary nutrients that play a vital role in chlorophyll production, plant growth, root development, and seed production. Every granule of Rainbow Plant Food also contains secondary nutrients such as Calcium, Magnesium and Sulfur, which spur all-around healthfulness in crops of every kind. With these standard ingredients, we have developed different versions of Rainbow Plant Food to meet the demands of your specific crops:

Rainbow for Alfalfa
Alfalfa plants have a central growing point and sprout from there. With this in mind, Rainbow for alfalfa features Boron, a mineral that enhances cell elasticity, causing crops to grow quickly. This alfalfa-specific product also features Magnesium, which promotes chlorophyll production, and Calcium, a key mineral for strong cell walls. The result of these additional nutrients, of course, is Plant Food targeted to help your alfalfa grow tall and fast.

Rainbow for Cotton
Cotton growers know that longer, stronger fibers are the best kind you could want. As such, we’ve crafted Rainbow for cotton to yield the longest, strongest fibers around. This product features Boron, which enhances cell elasticity, and Calcium, a key mineral for strong cell walls. Both nutrients contribute to the kind of fibers every cotton grower aspires to grow.

Rainbow for Peanuts
Peanuts are a lush crop, and in order to facilitate that lushness, we’ve crafted Rainbow for peanuts to incorporate as much Calcium as possible. This mineral facilitates strong cell walls, which in this crop translates specifically to strong peanut shells. We’ve also upped the percentage of potassium in this product, because in peanuts, potash helps with chemical processes such as osmotic regulation and photosynthesis. One major difference, of course, is that Rainbow for peanuts doesn’t contain as much Boron as some of our Rainbow products, because studies have shown that with peanuts, less Boron is actually more. Our peanut-centric product is just another example of how Rainbow tailors its Plant Food offerings to the biochemical needs of each individual crop. For you, the grower, that means higher yields and bigger payouts.

Rainbow for Small Grains
With small grains (otherwise known as cereals), the most important mineral is Copper, hands down. This mineral is a catalyst for metabolizing other elements, and it works in a variety of enzymatic processes in each plant. By the time you see a copper deficiency in your crops, it’s too late. Naturally, then, it’s no surprise that Copper is the key ingredient in Rainbow for small grains. Our small grains product contains traces of other nutrients, too, including Calcium and Boron. The end result for you is small grain harvests that are plentiful and healthy, year after year after year.

Rainbow for Tobacco
Tobacco grows quickly, prompting agronomists to describe it as a crop that generates a lot of “biomass.” With this in mind, Rainbow for tobacco boasts unusually high amounts of Manganese, a mineral that facilitates quick growth by stimulating chlorophyll production and other enzymatic processes. Our tobacco-oriented Plant Food also contains Copper; even though tobacco growers historically did not apply Copper to their crops, Rainbow scientists have discovered that the mineral actually makes crops healthier and stronger. By including it in our Rainbow product, we strive to deliver these benefits on to you.

Rainbow for Vegetables
There are literally dozens of different kinds of vegetables being grown today, but Rainbow for vegetables boasts two nutrients that every vegetable needs – Calcium and Boron. Calcium is critical for fruit production, making it critical to any vegetable grower’s success. Certain crops also can contract diseases associated with a lack of the mineral, such as “blossom-end rot,” and others. A lack of Boron can lead to malformations as well, which is why we pack that mineral into our vegetable-specific product, too. Thanks to granules that contain both of these nutrients, Rainbow gets vegetable growers ready for anything that Mother Nature throws their way.

There you have it – six distinct products for six different crops. With Rainbow Plant Food, growers learn the difference between soil and pay dirt. See for yourself today.
