Test Your Soil

Maximum economic yield begins with a soil test to determine key soil nutrients your crops need. Your own experience, combined with soil testing is the first step to achieving a high yielding, high quality crop. Regular soil testing and the use of the appropriate Rainbow Plant Food grades will help you achieve complete nutritional balance for your crops.

Hay/Forage/Pasture

Growing hay can be an extremely rewarding venture, but ensuring your crop has the best possible nutrition is the key to getting the highest-quality product possible.

Getting plenty of nitrogen in the soil is the starting point to a good grass. Nitrogen helps with chlorophyll development for photosynthetic activities, yield production and forage quality.

Phosphorus and potassium are also critical. In the spring, phosphorus is a crucial nutrient in promoting the development of new roots, while potassium can help your crop survive the cold weather and sustain productivity during drought stress. The ammoniated granules ensure that nutrient levels are consistent across the entire crop, leaving no square inch under- or over-nourished.

A Balanced Diet:

High yielding alfalfa requires large amounts of potassium to stimulate root growth. Every granule of Rainbow supplies the perfect balance of these minerals. Rainbow fertilizer for alfalfa also contains boron, which helps cell elasticity, and. provides sulfur, which helps an alfalfa crop’s ability to process nitrogen, promoting health across the board.

Readily Available Nutrients:

Nutrients in Rainbow fertilizers exist in an available form, so they can move quickly through the alfalfa roots in time to promote healthy, hearty crops.

Application Recommendation:

There are certain variables you’ll want to consider before applying Rainbow Plant Food to feed your crops. It’s important to know what is already in your soil prior to deciding on additional nutrients. Soil testing is the first step to understanding what your crops need. Knowing what is in your soil will help to avoid over-application of any nutrient, and subsequently avoid a toxicity problem that could negatively impact your yields.

Geographic location plays a big role in soil type and will impact when the ideal time is for you to apply.
