Test Your Soil

Maximum economic yield begins with a soil test to determine key soil nutrients your crops need. Your own experience, combined with soil testing is the first step to achieving a high yielding, high quality crop. Regular soil testing and the use of the appropriate Rainbow Plant Food grades will help you achieve complete nutritional balance for your crops.

Tobacco

As a grower, you know quality is just as important as weight when your tobacco gets to the warehouse floor. Outside of weather, nothing influences quality and yields more than your fertilizer program. For tobacco, balanced fertilization is critical, and the balanced nutrition in Rainbow fertilizers helps farmers grow the best tobacco possible.

Tobacco needs a proper balance of nutrients to grow and cure properly. Basic NPK is not enough. A tobacco plant needs 13 different plant nutrients. Practically all soils in the flue-cured tobacco belt are in a magnesium deficient area, so unless a good, available magnesium source is supplied in your fertilizer, your crop may suffer. When high yields and quality are critical, growers rely on Rainbow fertilizers to produce a healthy and bountiful crop.

A Balanced Diet:

Rainbow is like an energy bar for your crops – it packs a punch of all of the nutrients critical to healthy growth. Especially in the early stages, high-yielding tobacco requires large amounts of potassium to stimulate root growth. Too much of this nutrient, however, can restrict plant absorption of magnesium, which is essential for chlorophyll production. Studies have shown that magnesium deficiencies in tobacco can result in a 25 percent reduction in yield. With this in mind, every granule of Rainbow supplies the perfect balance of potassium and magnesium. The product also incorporates zinc, manganese, and boron, which helps overall biomass production. In addition, Rainbow provides sulfur, the perfect nutrient to spur the crop’s ability to process nitrogen, promoting crop health across the board.

Readily Available Nutrients:

Because the tobacco plant grows rapidly and produces tons of leaves, insoluble materials such as dolomitic limestone or magnesium oxide cannot release nutrients at a sufficient rate to keep up with the heavy demands of this crop. Rainbow is equipped to make up for this. Nutrients in Rainbow fertilizers exist in a highly available water-soluble sulfate form, so they can move quickly to reach tobacco roots in time to promote healthy, hearty crops.

Easy On Sensitive Crops:

While most potassium sources contain chloride that may reduce the quality of sensitive crops as tobacco, Rainbow does not. Because of this low chloride level, tobacco growers can use Rainbow fertilizers with confidence.

Application Recommendation:

There are certain variables you’ll want to consider before applying Rainbow Plant Food to feed your crops. It’s important to know what is already in your soil prior to deciding on additional nutrients. Soil testing is the first step to understanding what your crops need. Knowing what is in your soil will help to avoid over-application of any nutrient, and subsequently avoid a toxicity problem that could negatively impact your yields.

Geographic location also plays a big role in soil type and will impact when the ideal time is for you to apply.
